Overview

About Elgin

Elgin, often paired with Chantrell as "Elgin Chantrell," lies in the north of South Surrey along the south bank of the Nicomekl River, roughly between 24 Avenue and Crescent Road, and between 144 Street and King George Boulevard. Half-acre and larger lots, gently rolling streets, and long-standing landscaping define the area.

Elgin Heritage Park and the historic Stewart Farm anchor the community's northern edge, while Chantrell Creek and Redwood Park add further green space. It is one of South Surrey's most prestigious estate enclaves, with easy connections to Crescent Beach and Morgan Creek.

Heritage

History

Elgin was one of the earliest European-settled parts of Surrey, with the Stewart Farm built in 1894 on the Nicomekl River. The area remained largely agricultural through the twentieth century, with half-acre estate subdivisions filling in from the 1970s onward. Elgin Heritage Park was assembled to protect the Stewart Farm and adjacent farmland, opening to the public in the 1990s. Chantrell Creek Elementary opened in 1994, giving the community a defining catchment school.
